WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR...

Nonfiction children’s books for kids ages 0-12. Specific topics of interest include STEAM, history and biography, language arts, nature, sports, and social emotional learning. I’m looking for books that help children better understand the world and their (important!) place in it.

RIGHT NOW, PLEASE DON'T SEND ME...

Fiction. However, I do appreciate nonfiction books with a narrative arc.

HOW I GOT INTO BOOKS...

I have always enjoyed cozying up with a good book, but I fell in love with children’s books when I became an elementary school teacher. I saw how books were windows into new worlds -- either real or imagined -- that encouraged conversations and ignited passions in my students. So, I left my teaching job to study writing for kids. After years as a children’s curriculum writer, editor, and managing editor, I entered the world of children’s books and am so thankful to be here!

JUST A FEW OF THE BOOKS AND AUTHORS I'VE ACQUIRED AND EDITED IN THE PAST FIVE YEARS:

When I Hold You by Ashley Huffstutler (B&H Publishing)
25 Days of the Christmas Story and What Do I Do with Anger? by Dr. Josh and Christi Straub (B&H Publishing)
There are Lions in This Book! by Dandi Daley Mackall (B&H Publishing)
God Made You to Be You by Jamie Ivey (B&H Publishing)

SOME FAVORITE BOOKS AND AUTHORS I DIDN'T PUBLISH:

Children’s nonfiction: The Girl Who Thought in Pictures by Julia Finley Mosca, Trick or Treat, Bugs to Eat by Tracy Gold, All the World by Liz Garton Scanlon, and Except Antarctica by Todd Sturgell

Children’s fiction: The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo, Wonder by R.J. Palacio, Library Lion by Michelle Knudson, Elephant and Piggie series by Mo Willems, Fancy Nancy series by Jane O’Conner, George and Martha series by James Marshall

ONE OF THE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS AN EDITOR DOES FOR AN AUTHOR IS...

Cheer the author on to keep digging, exploring, refining, and trusting that their book matters and belongs in the world.

I LOVE MY JOB BECAUSE...

I get to work with incredibly talented, open-hearted, determined, and courageous people – children’s book authors! I love seeing an author’s manuscript come to life through the illustrations, and it’s rewarding to hear stories of how their book is changing readers’ lives.

I KEEP MY READING PILE...

Mostly on my phone; it’s full of fiction and nonfiction for kids and adults. I tend to devour narrative nonfiction and MG fiction the fastest.

BOOKSTORES YOU SHOULD VISIT BEFORE YOU DIE...

BookPeople in Austin, Texas and Parnassus Books in Nashville, Tennessee.

WHEN I'M NOT READING, I'LL BE...

Outdoors walking, hiking, cycling, or taking horseback riding lessons. Indoors watching TV, movies, or sports. Traveling to visit family, friends, or fun vacation spots!
