WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR...

Kids books with a strong nonfiction hook that kids (and grown-ups) will want to read over and over again. I’m especially interested in books that are packed with facts but still super commercial, books that promote cross-cultural learning, books that give voice to underrepresented topics and people, and books (especially board books) that make big ideas accessible and interesting to kids

RIGHT NOW, PLEASE DON'T SEND ME...

Fiction, YA

HOW I GOT INTO BOOKS...

I’ve been obsessed with books for as long as I can remember and wanted to make books as soon as I discovered it was a career option! After interning a few places and graduating with degrees in English Lit and Humanities from Michigan State University, I attended the Denver Publishing Institute which confirmed that yes, publishing is definitely for me. After DPI I got my first book-related job at HarperCollins Christian Publishing.

SOME FAVORITE BOOKS AND AUTHORS I DIDN'T PUBLISH...

On the kids’ side, I love Lemony Snicket, Gail Carson Levine, Kate Klise, Truly Devious, The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs, and basically every single DK Eyewitness book I’ve ever encountered. On the adult side, I’m a big fan of Tana French, Ruth Ware, Sally Rooney, and Colson Whitehead.

ONE OF THE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS AN EDITOR DOES FOR AN AUTHOR IS...

Advocating for a book at every stage before and after publication and making sure everyone—colleagues in-house, eventual readers of the book, and even the author—understands how special and awesome the book is.

I LOVE MY JOB BECAUSE...

The fact that our books can have an impact on kids’ lives always makes my heart skip a beat. There are also few things more thrilling than seeing the hard work that goes into the publishing process come together into a finished book in a reader’s hand.

I KEEP MY READING PILE...

Every bookshelf I own is majorly overflowing, so there’s at least one stack of books on pretty much every flat surface in my home at this point. My audiobook collection on Libro.fm and hold list on Libby are also constantly expanding.

BOOKSTORES YOU SHOULD VISIT BEFORE YOU DIE...

Literati Bookstore in Ann Arbor, Books & Mortar in Grand Rapids, and Brilliant Books in Traverse City are at the top of my list because they’re so cozy and perfect (and because I’m a die-hard Michigander). Malaprop’s Bookstore in Asheville, Parnassus Books in Nashville, and the Daunt Books on Marylebone High Street in London are three more that I daydream about constantly.

WHEN I'M NOT READING, I'LL BE...

Hiking, listening to NPR, watching British panel shows, playing with my dog, and slowly mastering the ukulele
