WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR...
I am interested in high-concept middle grade and young adult books, particularly from marginalized voices. I am especially excited to see thrillers, horror, fantasy (both high fantasy and fantasy grounded in the real world), and rom-coms. I love a strong romantic thread and commercial work with a literary bent to the writing. I am drawn to strong voice, messy characters, and complicated relationship dynamics.
RIGHT NOW, PLEASE DON'T SEND ME...
Historical fiction; adult fiction
HOW I GOT INTO BOOKS...
Once I read Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead, my whole world was turned on its axis. My love for that series lead me into the world of book blogging, and I spent my teen years making bookish content for YA and MG books. Books were crucial to my coming of age and I knew when I was quite young that I wanted to help bring more of them into this world. After attending undergrad at Arkansas Tech University, I packed my bags for New York City, where I got my MFA in Fiction and Writing for Children and Young Adults, and threw myself into publishing internships before landing at Sourcebooks.
SOME FAVORITE AUTHORS I DIDN'T PUBLISH...
Tahereh Mafi, Jenny Han, Morgan Matson, Stephanie Garber, Sarah Dessen, Leigh Bardugo, Emma Lord, Casey McQuistion, Meg Medina, Corey Ann Haydu, and many more!
ONE OF THE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS AN EDITOR DOES FOR AN AUTHOR IS...
Advocate for them and make the publishing journey less daunting! Collaboration between an author and editor is paramount…and also my favorite part of the job!
WHEN I'M NOT READING, I'LL BE...
Watching competition TV shows, testing new recipes, planning my next Halloween costume, or singing showtunes a bit too loudly.
